Residents Witness Magnificent Return Rathyatra Voyage In Guwahati

The Rathyatra of Lord Jagannath, an annual procession and one of the most revered festivals in Hinduism, draws devotees from around the world. This grand celebration, known as the "Festival of Chariots," features intricately designed chariots carrying the deities through the streets. On June 20, Guwahati witnessed a magnificent occasion, with devotees and followers chanting hymns of "Hare Krishna Hare Rama" as they made their way from Paltan Bazaar to Jagannath Cultural Complex in Jayanagar. The Return Rathyatra (Ulta jaatra) took place on Wednesday, attracting around 2,000 followers. The number gradually increased to 5000-6000 as the Rath proceeded from Dighalipukhuri to Ulubari. Finally, the deities return to the Iskcon Temple situated in the Jayanagar area of Guwahati. "This yatra symbolises a mother's love for her children. Mother Gundicha was granted a wish by the almighty, representing familial love. Since we don't have a Gundicha Temple in Guwahati, the voyage is limited to the Jayanagar temple," explained Pranjit Deka, a member and devotee. Ujjal Haloi, another follower, shared, "This religious rally is all about Lord Krishna bestowing his blessings on everyone nearby. His eyes are always open, and through this event, we provide a platform for people from various religious groups to witness his divine avatar." Devotees eagerly await the Rathyatra, considering it a sacred privilege to participate in the procession. People from across the city gather to pull the chariots, creating an atmosphere of immense religious fervour and devotion. The Jagannath Rathyatra is accompanied by joyous chants, religious songs, and traditional musical instruments, enveloping the surroundings in spiritual bliss. In Odisha, the Rathyatra proceeds from the Jagannath temple to Gundicha Temple and then returns to its original resting place. However, in Guwahati, devotees take a longer route to spread the blessings of Lord Jagannath across the city.
