The long-awaited Brahmaputra River Development Project in the Northeast region is set to receive a major boost with the construction of entry gates at strategic locations along its path. The project aims to transform the riverfront into a vibrant and well-planned area, promoting tourism and economic activities, and providing recreational spaces for the residents. The project is under Guwahati Smart City Limited (GSCL). The project is designed and built by Italian–Thai Development Public Company Limited (ITD) which is a real estate and construction company in Thailand. Speaking to G Plus, a source in ITD Cementation India Limited said, "This will be a marvellous project. This development will have an international touch." "More than 100 people are involved in this project, including the engineers", he added. The project, estimated at ₹370 crore will encompass several key elements, including the construction of a 15-meter wide boulevard, retaining walls, and connecting ramps to the boulevard. These features will enhance accessibility and offer a picturesque view of the majestic Brahmaputra River. To ensure convenience for tourists and locals alike, four amenity buildings will be constructed along the 1.2-kilometre stretch of the development. These buildings will provide essential facilities such as restrooms, food stalls, and information centres, creating a comfortable and enjoyable experience for visitors. In addition, the project includes the redevelopment of the Uzan Bazar fish market, the largest fish market in the area. The revitalisation of this market will not only improve the livelihoods of local fishermen but also create a modern and organised space for buyers and sellers. As part of the project, seven entry gates with guard rooms will be strategically placed at five different locations, including an emergency exit. These entry gates will serve as symbolic entrances to the region, welcoming visitors and showcasing the cultural and natural heritage of Northeast India. Furthermore, the development project will prioritise safety and security. Area lighting will be installed throughout the development, ensuring visibility and creating a safe environment for tourists, locals, and vendors during evening hours. While the project's commencement is still a few years away, with an expected date of March 16, 2025, anticipation is building among the local community and stakeholders. The Brahmaputra River Development Project is seen as a crucial step towards unlocking the region's tourism potential and boosting economic growth.
