The Assam Government celebrated the 400th Birth Anniversary of the legendary warrior, Bir Lachit Barphukan, by producing a short film in his honour. The film, which portrays the life and valour of Lachit Barphukan, premiered on November 25, 2022, during the momentous 400th Birthday Anniversary Celebration held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The distinguished occasion was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. To ensure the film receives widespread recognition, the Assam Government has joined hands with Jio Cinema, an Over-The-Top (OTT) platform, to host the historical masterpiece. This collaboration marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time an Indian state has utilized an OTT platform to reach a national audience. Speaking at an event today, Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his delight in bringing Assam's rich historical and cultural heritage to the rapidly expanding OTT subscriber base. In comparison to the 15 crore television sets, India boasts a staggering 45 crore OTT subscribers, making it one of the world's fastest-growing OTT markets.The Chief Minister further announced the government's plans to produce more short films on diverse topics like the World's largest Bihu Celebration and the 200 years of Assam Tea, which will also be made available on prominent OTT platforms, including JioCinema, Disney+ Hotstar, and Prime Video. The historical film on Bir Lachit Barphukan showcased on JioCinema is a moment of pride for Assam, as it marks the first-ever Hindi language documentary film dedicated to an iconic Assamese warrior. With such initiatives, Assam strives to captivate the interest of the contemporary audience and showcase its historical and cultural significance to the nation.
