Guwahati Ferry Services Temporarily Suspended Due To Rising Water Levels In Brahmaputra

 

In light of the escalating water levels of the Brahmaputra River, the Inland Water Transport Department has issued a notice announcing the suspension of ferry services in Guwahati, temporarily. The decision was taken after the subsequent submersion of essential infrastructures such as approach roads, ramps, and jetties, along with the presence of strong currents and submerged debris. The IWT has announced the temporary suspension of all departmental boats and vessels in the Guwahati-based ferry services with effect from August 29, 2023.

The decision has been implemented to ensure the safety of both public lives and properties.
