
In a remarkable feat of strength and skill, 21-year-old Priyanshu Dutta from Guwahati showcased his arm-wrestling prowess on the international stage. The occasion was the 4th International Federation of Armwrestling (IFA) World Armwrestling Championship held at Le Meridien Petaling Jaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from September 25 to 30, 2023. Competing in the highly competitive 70 kg weight category for the under-21 age group, Dutta displayed exceptional talent and determination. He secured two bronze medals in the "Junior U-21 Men Right 70 Kg" and the "Junior U-21 Men Left 70 Kg." Speaking to GPlus, Dutta said that he had been professionally involved with the sport for the last three years. He exclaimed that he was “very proud” and that “it's like a dream come true.” “It was a great opportunity for us. After winning, it was a proud moment for me and for my family to win medals for our nation. I got 2 bronze medals in both left and right arm in the 70kg under 21 category,” Dutta told GPlus. A total of 34 countries participated in this edition of the World Arm Wrestling Championship in the junior, senior and master categories. India had the highest number of participants with 51 members representing the nation, with 25 from Assam alone. Six athletes from Assam won medals, out of which Dutta was the only one from Guwahati.
