The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for four districts in Assam, signalling the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall on November 17. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Guwahati specifically identified Dima Hasao, Karimganj, Hailakandi, and Cachar as the districts expected to experience weather changes. This forecast comes in the wake of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the south Andaman Sea, extending to middle-tropospheric levels and tilting southwestwards with height. Under the influence of this system, the Meteorological Centre anticipates the formation of a Low-Pressure Area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. The system is projected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around November 16, 2023. In response to this weather pattern, the IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall at numerous locations across Assam and Meghalaya, as well as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on November 17 and 18, with a focus on south Assam and east Meghalaya on November 17.
